The SDS drill bit tip is made from a strong material such as tungsten to give it strength under extreme loads and fully hardened, giving high performance. 

SDS or Self Direct System is perfect for drilling into hard materials due to the shank design and drill type. The grooves of the shank sit into the chuck securing it into position but still allowing the SDS drill bit to slide up and down as the drill hammers up and down

SDS drills are specialized hammer drills and standard SDS Plus drill bits are made for drilling into tough materials like Concrete, Granite,  Rock, Stone and Masonry

SDS Plus Bits are designed solely for use with SDS Plus machines, they are not compatible with the larger SDS Max machines unless used in conjunction with an adaptor.
